County and state officials tell LAUSD, ‘Get your fiscal house in order or else we’re taking over’

LA Unified board members were jolted last month when a top LACOE official showed up unannounced to tell members they were spending more money than they made and the savings account is about to run out. It got worse this week, when she returned and brought a top state official with the same message.

The two high-ranking officials warned LAUSD board members that time was running out for them to get their house in order — or they will lose control over it and the state will eventually take over. They said that the first step to avoiding a takeover was to cut what you spend and do it immediately.
